Scooty on rent in Rishikesh

If this is your first time on two wheels in India, or you're riding pillion more than you're riding solo, start with a scooty. No clutch, no gear shifts to think about while you're also dodging a cow in the road — twist the throttle and go.

We keep the Honda Activa 125 in the fleet — automatic, easy to handle from the first ten minutes, and the scooty we hand to more first-time riders than anything else we own.

Who a scooty actually suits

Where a scooty is fine, and where it isn't

Fine: Rishikesh town, Ram Jhula, Laxman Jhula, the ride out to Neer Garh and the waterfalls loop, Shivpuri, the Rishikesh–Haridwar road.

Marginal: Neelkanth Mahadev and Kunjapuri two-up — solo riders do fine, but a loaded scooty on the steeper hairpins will lose speed and strain the CVT. We'll tell you this at the counter, not after you've broken down halfway up.

Not recommended: Chopta, Chardham, or anything past Rudraprayag. Small wheels, low ground clearance and a 5-litre tank don't belong on those roads.

Mileage and running cost

The Activa returns roughly 45-50 kmpl in normal riding, a little less loaded two-up or on hills. A full tank is enough for a Rishikesh day trip — into town, out to a waterfall or Neelkanth, back — with fuel left over. At current pump prices that puts your fuel cost for an average day well under what you'd spend on autos covering the same ground.

Frequently asked

Do I need a gear license to ride a scooty?

You need a valid driving licence covering a gearless two-wheeler, which is the standard licence category most people already hold. No separate endorsement needed for an automatic under 125cc.

Can two people ride a scooty in Rishikesh?

Legally and practically yes on flat roads. On climbs — Neelkanth, Kunjapuri — a scooty two-up will struggle and overheat on the switchbacks. We'll say so honestly at the counter rather than let you find out halfway up.

What's the real mileage on a rented Activa?

Expect 45-50 kmpl in town riding, dropping a bit on hills. A full tank comfortably covers a day trip to Neelkanth and back with fuel to spare.

Is a scooty enough for Chardham?

No — see our honest breakdown on the Chardham rental page. Ground clearance, luggage space and seat comfort over multi-day mountain riding all favour a geared motorcycle.

Can I swap a scooty for a Royal Enfield mid-rental?

If you started on a scooty and want to move up, come by the shop — subject to availability we can usually work out a swap and adjust the balance.
