Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 on rent in Rishikesh

This is the bike we point people toward when the trip involves altitude and you want the newest engine in our fleet. The 450 is Royal Enfield's current-generation Himalayan — liquid-cooled, more power than the outgoing 411, and built specifically for exactly the roads you find north of here: broken tarmac, gravel diversions, long days in the saddle.

  • Best for — and not great for

Best for: Chardham, Chopta, Badrinath and Auli — the most capable motorcycle we rent. The 17 litres tank and 28-30 kmpl mileage give you real range between the fuel gaps on the Chardham roads, and the long-travel suspension and 825 mm seat height mean the bike shrugs off potholes and washouts that would rattle a road bike apart.

Not great for: tight town lanes, riders under 5'4" who haven't test-sat it. Its size and weight make it more bike than you need for a quick run into town, and at 825 mm the seat height is the tallest in our fleet — if you're on the shorter side, sit on it at the shop before you commit to a multi-day booking. We'd rather you find out in our yard than on a switchback.

    450 or 411?

We run both generations of the Himalayan. The 450 is newer, liquid-cooled, and noticeably more powerful — the bike to ask for if you want the current model and don't mind paying more for it. Our Himalayan 411 covers the same Chardham and Chopta routes at a lower rental rate, on a simpler, air-cooled engine that's been proven on these roads for years. Neither is the "wrong" choice — it comes down to budget and whether the newer engine matters to you.

    Who rides this bike

Mostly riders with a Chardham, Chopta or Kedarnath trip already planned who want our newest mountain bike, plus a smaller group who just want the most capable machine in our fleet for a Neelkanth or Kunjapuri day out. If your whole trip stays inside Rishikesh town, you're paying for capability you won't use — a Hunter 350 will serve you better and cost less.

What we check before you ride

Every Himalayan gets the same pre-mountain inspection regardless of where you're headed: chain tension and lubrication, brake pads front and rear, tyre pressure and tread depth, and clutch cable play. For any multi-day booking we send a spare clutch cable and a basic tool kit with the bike — full detail on what a Chardham package includes is on our Chardham rental page.
